NOTE: In the US, plastic film thickness is often measured in mils. This does NOT mean millimeters—it's a different unit equal to one thousandth of an inch.
In metric units, 1 mil = 0.0254 millimeters (or 25.4 microns/micrometers). Films can also be measured in gauge thickness, where 1 mil = 100 gauge.
